Gilding & Patination

Assorted types of metal leaf ranging from pure  24 karat gold to copper and aluminum are layered using oil gilding  methods. Various acid washes are then applied to chemically oxidize  these metals.  The resulting patina produces all of the colors and  textures seen, resulting in a visual experience that cannot be  replicated by any other painting or printing process.  

The are no paints, pigments or stains used on the images.

  Each  piece is completed with a contemporary water gilded frame. This  harmonious union of gilded image and frame transcends the idea of  gilding as a craft, redefining gilding as an art form unto itself.
